Stirling is a county in the Central Lowlands of Scotland. It’s named after the historic county of Stirlingshire, which was established by King David I in 1145. The county borders with Clackmannanshire, Falkirk and Perthshire. The county town is Stirling, which was also the capital of Scotland until 1454. The Royal Burgh of Stirling is a town and former royal burgh, situated on a strategic bluff above the River Forth. It’s one of the best-preserved medieval towns in Scotland and has many historic buildings from the 13th century onwards.
